Dear Tim:
I am very sorry I could not be with you to applaud today’s performance by The John Winn Quarter, also known as Neighborliness, and to help celebrate the formation of JAMinc.
I think you will understand and support my reason for missing today’s concert- I am attending a performance this afternoon by SPARC, the School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community, that features my youngest daughter, Eliza. Lisa and I are so pleased that all three of our daughters have had opportunities in this community to develop a true appreciation for the performing arts.
That is what today’s Jazz Ambassadors Concert is all about, and I salute you.
As Governor, I commend Neighborliness for its selection by the U.S. State Department to represent our Commonwealth and our Nation in a spring tour of the Far East. Jazz is quintessential American music, and I wish the band the best of luck as it prepares for this significant tour.
I also want to note my personal support for the recent formation of JAMinc, and its stated mission “to open minds, hearts and ears to music deserving a wider audience.” It is good works of community-based organizations such as JAMinc that help make Virginia such a remarkable rich place to live, work, and raise a family.
Again, I trust you understand why I cannot join you this afternoon- but I want you to know that your event and your organization have my support and respect.
